MEDLINEplus Health Information: Back Pain
MEDLINEPlus provides quality health care information from the world’s largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. This page includes links to resources for general overviews, as well as information on anatomy and physiology, clinical trials, diagnosis and symptoms, prevention and screening, rehabilitation, treatment, and others. Spanish resources are also provided. See related sections of MEDLINEplus for information on Back Injuries and Slipped Disk.

MEDLINEplus Health Tutorials: Back Pain
This tutorial is an interactive health education resource from the Patient Education Institute. It uses animated graphics to explainhow to prevent back pain in easy-to-read language. This tutorial requires a special Flash plug-in, version 4 or above. If you do not have Flash, you will be prompted to obtain a free download of the software before you start the tutorial.

Ask NOAH About: Back Pain
New York Online Access to Health (NOAH) is a project of four New York partners: The City University of New York, The Metropolitan New York Library Council, The New York Academy of Medicine and The New York Public Library. This site lists resources for basic information as well as specific information on lower back pain and sciatica.

Back Pain
This overview from the MayoClinic.com describes a variety of conditions that can cause back pain. Links to additional information on specific conditions are provided, as well as links to additional Mayo resources on back pain prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
This organization provides education and practice management services for orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals. The Academy also informs the public about the science of orthopaedics. The Patient/Public Information section contains fact sheets, brochures, and booklets on orthopaedic conditions and treatments, injury prevention, and wellness and exercise. The Find a Surgeon page can be used to find surgeons in Maryland by searching for last name, first name, city, state, or zip code.

Men's Health: Low Back Pain
This health information guide from University of Maryland Medicine provides an overview of symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment of lower back pain.

Orthpoaedics Information Guide
This guide from University of Maryland Medicine (UMM) provides an overview of orthopaedic surgery, a listing of treatable conditions, and a guide to resources at UMM. These include the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Shock Trauma Orthopaedic Trauma Service, and Kernan Hospital.
